More details released in incident on Onigaming

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit and the Treaty Three Police have released more details about an incident on the Onigaming First Nation Sunday morning.

The SIU was contacted after an Anti-Riot Weapon or ARWEN was used on a 22-year-old man.

The preliminary investigation shows EMS were dispatched to a home on the reserve to provide medical assistance.

EMS say they were confronted by the suspect and contacted police.

Treaty Three Police say the individual barricaded inside with two family members.

A three-hour stand-off and negotiation proceeded.

As the suspect exited to home, there was an interaction between him and officers.

One OPP officer deployed his ARWEN at the man, and he was struck.

Police say the suspect was taken into custody, but did not sustain any serious injury.

The SIU say two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is contacted anyone someone is injured as a result of an interaction with police.
