21 wildfires burning in Northwestern Ontario

Twenty-one fires are burning in Northwestern Ontario.

One popped up Tuesday in the Sioux Lookout and is about 15 hectares in size, according to the Aviation Forest Fires and Emergency Services.

In the region, 7 fires are out of control, 6 are controlled, and 8 are under observation.

The largest fire in the region, Red Lake 12, grew about 7 hectares to more than 163,000.

It has stayed about 6 and a half kilometres from the western side of Sandy Lake First Nation.

Kenora 20 is still not under control at 36,000 hectares.

But there was minimal fire behaviour or visible smoke on Tuesday.
