Mikinakoos Seeks Donations For Giving Tuesday

It’s Giving Tuesday and a local agency is using the day to raise money to send cold weather children’s wear to two remote first nations in the north.

Emily Shandruk from the Mikinakoos Children’s Fund says they want to raise $20,000 to sends winter coats, hats, mitts and boots to Big Trout Lake and Kingfisher Lake.

“We don’t make the decisions, the communities come to us and ask for certain support around work that they are doing,” explains Shandruk.

“This was brought to our attention through members of the board who have been in those communities and directly witnessed the need for extra winter gear in them.”

Shandruk says so far they have raised $13,000 toward the purchase of the winter gear and they can go beyond today’s deadline, if they haven’t raised all the funding necessary.
