Provincial Funding Supporting Area Youth

Up to $5-million will be available for aboriginal social service agencies to help out youth with mental health issues.

As many as 20 organizations will benefit from the provincial funding, with as many as 90 full time jobs being created for aboriginal service agencies.

The local share will be going to the Kenora Chiefs Advisory.

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford and Children, Community and Social Services Minister Todd Smith were in Kenora yesterday (Tuesday) to announce the funding.

Smith says “the more we can reinforce those who are providing services on the ground when it comes to youth outreach workers, the better off our youth are going to be.”

He notes the money will help build on the amazing work already being provided by staff in helping kids in distress get the services that they need.

Smith also met with families with autistic children from across the region to hear their concerns.
