Province Setting Aside Money To Fight Crime

The provincial government is giving $6-million in funding seized in crime investigations back to municipalities and their police forces.

Municipal, OPP and First Nations police services will have apply for a share of the money.

Premier Doug Ford would like it earmarked to fight specific criminal activity.

“They include ending gun and gang violence on our streets. Putting a stop to sexual violence in all its forms. And tackling one of the fastest growing crimes in Canada and the World…human trafficking.”

Ford notes “The more I learn about human trafficking, the angrier I get. The average age of entry for a young girl is 13-years-old. That’s 13-years-old. It’s heartbreaking.”

The province will dole out the money early in the new year.
