New Cases Of COVID-19 Across Northwest

The Northwestern Health Unit confirms two new COVID-19 cases reported on the weekend come from the Kenora Jail.

Officials say both cases are asymptomatic.

The two inmates are being isolated and jail staff and health officials are working to identify others who may have been in significant contact.

The positive results came from routine testing at the facility.

Another was reported in Wabaseemoong First Nation.

Chief Waylon Scott says their leadership is working vigilantly with public health officials and following all necessary guidelines to keep the community safe.

Scott adds they have testing available for all members and the individual who tested positive had recently travelled outside of the Kenora area to a location that had known cases of COVID-19, and at this time they don’t believe It originated in the community.

There are reports the person contracted the virus at the Thunder Bay Health Sciences Centres.

Lock down measures in Wabaseemoong are now in place.

Meantime, a worker at a Thunder Bay long-term care facility has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The new cases come as the province is expected this week to announce regional reopening plans.
