2 Youth charged in connection with police pursuit

Two youth face a long list of charges following a high-speed chase east of Dryden.

Early Wednesday morning shortly before 3 am the OPP tried to conduct a traffic stop in the City of Dryden, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

Instead of pursuing it, officers were able to deploy a spike belt near Dinorwic.

Prior to coming to a stop, the vehicle rammed a police cruiser.

The driver was placed under arrest, while the passenger fled the scene.

He was later arrested.

The driver, a 16-year-old from the Lac Seul First Nation faces a long list of charges including:

  • Theft Over $5,000
  • Assault A Peace Officer
  • Dangerous operation
  • Fail to stop for Police
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to comply with release order
  • Fail to Comply with undertaking
  • Mischief Over $5,000
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration
  • Assault A Peace Officer with a weapon – two counts
  • Failure to stop after accident

The 15-year-old from Pickle Lake has been charged with:

  • Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Mischief Under $5,000

Due to the age of the accused, their names are being withheld due to Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Both have been remanded into custody.
