200-people from the remote Northern First Nation of Deer Lake are being
evacuated due to heavy smoke from more then 30-forest fires burning around
the community.
The Ministry of Natural Resources says the evacuation order effects
mostly children and the elderly and those with respiratory problems.
Residents started moving out Tuesday and the operation is expected
to wrap up late Wednesday.
The evacuees are going to a reception centre in Geraldton.
None of the fires are threatening the community.
