Ontario Trying To Hit Testing Target

Premier Doug Ford says they are working hard to clear the backlog of COVID-19 tests.

Monday, there were 58,000 tests waiting to be done.

Ford says they are getting close to their goal.

“I can’t wait for this rapid test to be approved from Health Canada, it’s going to be a game-changer,” says Ford.

Health Canada regulators have approved a rapid COVID-19 test.

U.S.-based Abbott Laboratories can now sell and distribute the Panbio COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test Device, which can produce results in less than 20 minutes.

Public Services and Procurement Minister Anita Anand said today the federal government has signed an agreement to buy more than 20.5 million of these tests in the coming weeks.

Ford says “we’ll continue pumping out the tests…42,000 tests yesterday…38,000 the day before. Soon our goal is to hit 50,000.”

The opposition believes the government should be doing anywhere between 75,000 and 100,000 tests a day.
