The Kenora Under 18 Thistles can play in Manitoba this season, but only if the Northwestern Health Unit gives its blessing.
All non-essential travel, including sports teams, is not recommended.
The executive director of Hockey Northwestern Ontario Alex Vaillant says they discussed the issue at their board meeting Tuesday night.
“So we did make a motion to approve the Kenora Thistles to participate in the Manitoba ‘AAA’ League, however, contingent on the Northwest Health Unit removing the recommendations to avoid non-essential travel,” says Vaillant.
Vaillant says the only other provision is that all games would have to be played in Manitoba due to the current Government of Ontario regulations, including no body contact and not more than 50 people can be involved in the leagues.
“The Kenora Thistles have been discussing with the Manitoba ‘AAA’ League and under the current situation and the differences between provincial legislation, they have decided between the team and the league to play exclusively out of Manitoba for the time being.”
