Catholic Board Has Concerns With Virtual Learning

The Kenora Catholic District School Board, which oversees operations at St. John School in Red Lake, has written a letter to the Minister of Education outlining a number of concerns it has with the virtual model of learning.

The chair of the separate school board says parents and students choosing to alternate between the virtual school and face-to-face learning is disruptive.

Also, the board raises issues of a lack of funding for two to three models of schooling they are forced to use, a lack of employees to carry the various systems of learning and says current timelines for reports is not realistic during the pandemic.

In closing, chair Theresa Gallick says they want a return to face-to-face learning as soon as possible.

She says technology can enhance face-to-face learning, but it can never replace it.
