Unsafe Driving Reported On Some Ice Roads

It appears not everyone is following the rules on seasonal ice roads.

Members of the Provincial Police in Pickle Lake, Nishnawbe Aski Police and Mishkeegogamang First Nation say they’ve observed numerous unsafe driving practices on the roads in and around their communities.

They are reminding drivers to follow the rules set out for regular roads and follow speed limits and ensure vehicles are well maintained.

Police will be stepping up traffic safety enforcement.

If caught driving in an unsafe manner, drivers could be fined, sent to jail, have their licence suspended, and have their vehicle impounded.

The public is encouraged to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-800-310-1122 whenever they observe a driver operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner.
