Health Unit Not Ready To Put The Northwest In A Lockdown

Some people may be on edge over a recent spike in local COVID-19 numbers.

The Northwestern Health Unit says it’s closely monitoring the situation.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says while our numbers are high, we shouldn’t need to go into another lockdown.

She says the Red Level does make sense for our area right now.

Young Hoon says it will be reassessed on a weekly basis.

There were 24 new cases on the weekend, 14 in the Kenora area and 10 in the Sioux Lookout district.

In the meantime, the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora says an outbreak there is now over.

At least ten patients contracted the virus earlier this month.
