Forest Fire Situation Heating Up Across Region

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry will be watching the forest fire situation closely during the extreme heat wave.

This follows the complete evacuation of the village of Lytton, B.C. and several other regions following record setting temperatures and devastating wildfires.

There is an outdoor and campfire ban across most of Northwestern Ontario.

There are 44 active fires in the region and 13 are considered not under control.

There were six new starts reported by late afternoon Thursday.

Three were in the Sioux Lookout region, two in the Thunder Bay district and one about 61 kilometres southeast of Dryden.

All six are small and pose no threat at this time.

The fire hazard is high to extreme across much of the region.
