Local Fire Hazard Takes A Complete 180

Mother nature continues to assist Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry fire crews.

Bunny Lake near the Red Lake 77 fire received 22.6 millimetres of rain Saturday, while Separation Lake near Kenora 51 recorded 9.6.

Overnight into Sunday areas in the southern part of the region received significant rainfall as fires in the Quetico Provincial Park area received between 19 to 29 millimetres of rain.

Several blazes north of Ignace received between 20-55.

There was only one new start on the weekend, a small one about 37 kilometres northwest of Fort Frances.

The fire hazard is now low throughout the northwest region.

There are still 79 active fires but only six are considered not under control.

Two are being held, 13 are under control and 58 fires are being observed.
