Atikokan Resident Faces Assault/Weapons Charges

Provincial Police have arrested an Atikokan man following a scary incident that occurred in late July.

Police were contacted by an individual on Saturday stating she was given a noxious substance, held against her will and was assaulted.

Officers located the man in question the same day and searched properties owned by the accused.

Investigators seized a number of non-restricted, restricted and prohibited firearms.

OPP say 53 year old Brian Bates faces a total of five charges.

– Careless Use of a Firearm, sec. 86(1)
-Assault with a Weapon, sec. 267(a)
-Transfer Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted without Authority, sec. 101
-Forcible Confinement, sec. 279(2)
-Administer noxious thing with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm, sec. 245(1)(a)

Bates remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
