My father was Peter C Stemkoski.
Dad was a tail gunner in a Halifax heavy bomber. He completed 40 ‘ops’
He was born in 1921, 3rd street north Kenora On.
In the attached picture Dad is in the back row, second from the left. He was a tail gunner in a “Halifax” heavy bomber.
I’ve also shared a brief history of his sorties while he was stationed with the 158 squadron in Lissett, England.
Post war Dad was a blacksmiths helper at a mine outside Kenora. In 1947 Dad, my mother and sister moved to Gold Rock, where he was a Master mechanic at the mines. In 1953, they relocated to Wabigoon so my sister could attend school. He was still on the mine payroll into the 1960’s while also being employed by the Dryden Paper Company, retiring in 1985 as a Heat and Ventilation man.
Dad would have been 100 this year (Tom Stemkoski – Nov 8. 2021)
