Traffic Enforcement = Impaired Charges in Sioux Lookout

Proactive traffic enforcement has resulted in Sioux Lookout OPP arresting and charging two people for impaired driving in the Municipality.

Around 1:30 am on Saturday, March 26, OPP officers observed a vehicle leaving from a local bar, displaying erratic driving behaviour. A traffic stop was conducted.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year old Sioux Lookout man was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and drugs, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a),
  • Operation while Impaired – Blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on April 26 to answer to these charges.

Around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, March 29, OPP officers located a vehicle stopped haphazardly on Front Street. Concerned the driver may be intoxicated, officers conducted a traffic stop.

As a result of the investigation, a 44 year old man from Deer Lake First Nation was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and drugs, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a),
  • Operation while Impaired – Blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on May 3to answer to these charges.

In addition to criminal charges, impaired drivers face vehicle impoundments and driver’s license suspensions.

The OPP would like to remind all drivers that they have a responsibility to ensure public safety on our roads, trails, and waterways.
