A state of emergency has been declared in Kashechewan First Nation over flooding.
Band officials say there is concern about the thickness of the ice on the Albany River that poses an increased risk of ice jams upon break-up this spring.
It is measured as five to six feet.
There are plans to move people to their trapline and hunting grounds as a precaution instead of flying out to other communities as done in the past.
About 1,100 of the community’s 2,000 people have registered for the initiative.
