Red Lake Miners SIJHL Champs For First Time

It was a special moment at the Cochenour Arena Saturday night as the Red Lake Miners claimed their first ever Bill Salonen Cup.

The Miners defeated Kam River 3-2 to win the Superior International Junior Hockey League championship in six games.

Jordan Baranesky, Noah Kramps and Nic Bolin scored for Red Lake.

The Miners came out firing and finished with 43 shots compared to 27 for the Fighting Walleye.

Taxson Taupert made 25 saves for the win.

Red Lake now advances to the national championship.

The Centennial Cup in Estevan, Saskatchewan starts May 20.
