Mamakwa: NDP Leadership Something To Consider

The Ontario NDP is looking for a new leader as Andrea Horwath announced plans to step down.

The conversation of a replacement is underway and Kiiwetinoong representative Sol Mamakwa says he’s been asked on numerous occasions if he is interested in running.

“It’s not something that I’m thinking about right now but in the coming weeks perhaps months it’s probably something, you know I don’t know, it’s something to consider I guess.

He does not it would be a great opportunity.

Mamakwa is also thanking Horwath for her leadership stating, “We’ve had strong leadership from her and I wish her well but I think it is time for change and it is time to have a new leader. You know the goal is always to form government right so there is an opportunity for others to be able to take that helm and hopefully form government in the next election.

Horwath has served as leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party since 2009 and as the leader of the Official Opposition in Ontario since 2018.

Mamakwa was elected to his second term at Queen’s Park last week.
