A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Dryden, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and most communities across the Northwest, while Tornado Watches have been issued for Kenora, Fort Frances and Atikokan.
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts of up to 120 km/hr, nickel to golf ball sized hail and heavy rain.
The weather agency says the storm could roll through the area sometime this afternoon into tonight.
