He’s back in cabinet and Greg Rickford believes his new duties will align perfectly with his job as an MPP.
Rickford is responsible for Indigenous Affairs and Northern Development in the new Doug Ford cabinet.
His role in the previous government included the same ministries but also included Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, but those are now stand-alone ministries.
Rickford says, “It’s humbling and a pleasure to serve the Premier in my capacity as a cabinet minister and I’m really excited to get going on two ministries that I think moving forward are going to require more attention to some detail.”
He adds, “Indigenous Affairs has obviously been with me from the outset and has formed an important part of my professional career for a long time. But Northern Development is very exciting, to pull it out as a stand alone ministry and work with communities across the North.”
Rickford outlines his immediate priorities.
“Focus on the major projects that are moving forward. Northern Development means playing an integral roll in supporting future mining operations, existing ones, forestry. There’s a lot of movement in Kenora-Rainy River on that front and it ties in with Indigenous communities.”
Rickford says the twinning of Highway 17 and expanding that project is another key pillar for him in this next term in office.
He also points to support on-going infrastructure projects across the riding.
