Border Restrictions Extended

The federal government has extended restrictions when entering Canada despite a plea from northern tourism organizations and Kenora MP Eric Melillo to lift them.

The current rules and regulations will remain in place until at least September 30.

That means all travellers, no matter where you are from, will be required to upload their vaccine information and travel documents to the ArriveCan app.

That needs to be completed within 72 hours before arriving at the border.

Foreign travellers will still need to provide proof of being fully vaccinated to enter the country and unvaccinated Canadians or permanent residents will need to provide a molecular COVID-19 test taken prior to entering and quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.

Local critics have complained the rules and regulations continue to impact tourism in our area.

Meantime, the Canada Border Agency warns of potential longer-than-normal wait times because of the long-weekend for both Canadians and Americans.
