Border Statistics For April

Many Canadians are still leery about crossing the border into the United States.

The latest border stats show over 14,000 people crossed at the border in International Falls in April.

That is about a third of what was recorded in April 2019, before the pandemic.

However, it is the highest number since September 2021 when more than 16,000 people were processed by US Customs and Immigration.

However, non-essential travel to the U.S. was still restricted, so that number reflects mostly Americans who took advantage of Canada’s open border.

On the other side, overall there is a slow rise to the number of Americans coming into Canada.

Statistics Canada says almost 760,000 U.S. residents made trips to the country in April.

That’s is almost double the number that paid a visit in March.

The number is still 48% of that who crossed the border before the pandemic.

Most of the U.S. visits were made by vehicles with 46% making just one day trips.

Those one-day trips are also three times that number seen in March.
