Expect to see a heavy police presence on area highways this week.
Provincial Police are conducting its annual Operation Safe Driver Campaign.
The program was created in 2007 to help reduce the number of crashes, deaths, and injuries involving large trucks, buses and passenger vehicles due to unsafe driving.
This year’s Safe Driver Week will focus on speeding.
Speeding has been a factor in more than a quarter of crash deaths since 2008.
Officers will also be on the lookout for distracted driving, texting, failure to use a seatbelt, following too closely, improper lane changes, reckless or aggressive driving, failure to obey traffic control devices and drunk or drugged driving.
More information on Operation Safe Driver can be Found on the CVSA website.
The #OPP has responded to 29 fatal crashes involving a commercial motor vehicle so far this year. These crashes have killed 40 people. During #OperationSafeDriver, July 10-16, officers will be monitoring roads for motorists engaging in risky driving in and around a CMV. #OSD2022 pic.twitter.com/xvx2LwhA2W
