Staffing Shortage At Sacred Heart In Sioux Lookout

A shortage of teachers is forcing some program changes at Sacred Heart School in Sioux Lookout.

The school has five positions still unfilled.

Brad Oster is the Superintendent of Education at the Northwest Catholic District School Board and says it has resulted in two French Immersion classes becoming one for kids in grade 6, 7 and 8.

“Finding French teachers is a challenge throughout the province so that decision was not taken lightly to do that but obviously we had to do everything we could to make sure that every classroom is covered.”

He notes they also had to reassign the school’s achievement teachers into classrooms.

Those instructors were previously hired to support classrooms with literacy and math.
