Dryden Football Team Finishes Second In Winnipeg League

The Dryden Eagles High School Football team was unable to end the East Kildonan undefeated streak Friday afternoon in Winnipeg.

The Eagles fell to the Riveres 27-7.

Dryden finishes the regular season with a record of 5-2, while East Kildonan finishes with a 7-0 record.

The Eagles did get some good news however as Fort Frances upset Beaver Brae 10-8.

That means Dryden secures second place in the standings and a home playoff game.

Here is the recap from the game courtesy of Coach Geoff Zilkalns:

KE took a first quarter lead after a possession for each team when their QB ran the ball in from the 9 yard line. Shalom Powell would answer in the second frame on a 47 yard scamper. The conversion was negated by a penalty and the Eagles trailed 7-6. Late in the half, the Reivers added a 2 yard TD pass and converted it for a 14-6 lead.
Dryden moved one point closer on Shalom Powell’s rouge off a punt into the end zone. Two mistakes by the Eagles would widen the gap. First the Eagles fumbled in their end and the ball was recovered by KE for a major and then the hosts pounced on punt in the DHS end zone for another TD and the 27-7 final.
