NCC urges Canada to increase protected areas

The Nature Conservancy of Canada says this country has to make more of our lands protected areas.

Spokesperson Andrew Holland says the government still a long ways to go to meet our commitments.

“The first target they set was 25 percent of our lands and waters by 2025, and at the tail end of 2022, Canada sat at 13.6 percent and Ontario for protected lands, we were at 10.9 percent,” points out Holland.

“So if we’re going to get to 25 percent by 2025 we’re really going to have to step on the gas pedal.”

The NCC used Earth Day this past Saturday to promote increasing Canada’s land protection targets.
