As many Canadians prepare to witness the first coronation ceremony in 70 years, others would like to see the Monarchy eliminated altogether, according to a poll by Abacus Data.
Over 1700 Canadians were surveyed between April 28 to May 3.
The Abacus Data poll found only four percent said they will follow King Charles the Third’s coronation very closely.
About half said they won’t be following it at all.
Two in three said if a referendum was held about the future of the monarchy in Canada, they would vote to eliminate the monarchy in Canada, which is up from a previous survey in 2020.
When asked whether Canada should continue to have a monarch as its head of state, 12 percent felt it should, while 52 percent believed Canada shouldn’t.
Eighteen percent say they don’t care either way.
More Canadians have a more negative impression of King Charles than a positive one, according to the poll.
Thirty-three percent have a negative view while 18 percent have a positive one. Thirteen percent said they don’t know enough to have a view.
