Survey finds inflation and gas prices having little impact on travel

A new survey found Canadians are still planning to travel this summer but may scale down a bit due to fuel and inflation concerns.

Over 1500 Canadians were polled by Angus Reid as a part of the 2023 edition of the annual Toyota Canada Summer Road Trip Survey.

Seventy-four percent are still planning a road trip, but cost-cutting and affordability are top of mind.

According to the survey, 51 percent of travellers will be looking for less expensive accommodations, forty-seven percent will be planning fewer restaurant dining occasions and thirty-one percent will be travelling a shorter distance.

Despite the challenges, many travellers, around 71 percent hope to kick back and feel relaxed.

A weekend or long weekend getaway is, by far, the most common type of trip being planned, with about half of the respondents intending to drive less than 10 hours in total.

Family vacations are a top priority for to travellers in Atlantic Canada with 89% planning to travel with family.
