KCDSB finalizes 2023-2024 budget

The Kenora Catholic District School Board is projecting a slight deficit next school year.

Trustees approved the budget last week.

Superintendent of Business Services Alison Smith says that’s despite an increase in their budget.

“Overall our revenues are coming in at just over $33 million projected for next year,” states Smith.

“So for our revised estimates last year, our revenue was projected at $32.7 million, so it’s close to a million dollars over that.”

Smith says there is one particular reason they will be running a deficit next school year.

“We’re projecting an annual deficit of $334,887. There was the loss of the COVID-19 funding that supported various positions and initiatives throughout the board.”

Smith adds that in terms of enrolment, they are looking at an increase of one student, compared this past year.

The enrolment projection for September is 1,260 students.
