$5 million available for emergency preparedness

New funding to help communities purchase equipment and other resources to deal with emergencies.

The province is setting aside five million dollars in a new Community Emergency Preparedness grant program.

It will allow communities to acquire supplies, equipment and training to improve their emergency preparedness plans.

Non-governmental organizations, local service boards, and First Nations are also eligible.

“We are making our province stronger and more resilient by helping communities prepare for emergencies,” says Caroline Mulroney, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for Emergency Management Ontario, in a statement.

“These prudent and targeted investments are another step this government is taking to ensure communities have the resources they need to keep people safe when the next flood, wildland fire, or severe storm impacts our province.”

The province says the funding can be put towards purchasing equipment such as sandbagging machines and generators or investing in emergency management training and awareness.

Applications are being accepted until November 30.
