City terminates arena expansion project contract

The expansion work on the Dryden Memorial Arena has ground to a halt.

City of Dryden CAO, Roger Nesbitt says they had to terminate the contract with the company doing the work.

“Staff are in the process of securing a new general contractor to pick up that work and move forward,” Nesbitt told Dryden city council at their recent open meeting.

“Until we do have another general contractor in place, we’ve suspended most of the work happening on the expansion.”

Nesbitt adds that unfortunately that will put the project behind schedule.

“This development, as undesirable as it was, it was necessary and will impact the schedule on the completion date on the expansion project.”

Nesbitt wouldn’t say why the city decided to terminate the contract but is hopeful work will resume in the new year.
