Beware of telephone and text scams

Telephone and text scams have been doing the rounds.

A local woman says both she and her mother were recipients of the scam call.

The call informed than that large charges were made on their Visa cards.

They were then asked to press a number to access the information.

The number was from the 807 area code.

The woman says it was fortunate that she was there when her mother received the call to advise her that it was a scam.

Another person was targeted by a Canada Revenue Agency Scam.

It was a text message indicating they had a rebate and just had to open a link.

Even though the text comes from an Ottawa area code, efforts to contact that number were unsuccessful.
