60 Active Fires In Region

Only two new fires started in the Northwest yesterday.

One is in the Thunder Bay District 45 kilometres southwest of Nipigon.

It’s not under control and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reports it’s around a tenth of the size of a baseball field.

A similar size fire is being held in the Sioux Lookout district 114 km northwest of Pickle Lake.

The forest fire hazard remains moderate to high across the region.

A restricted fire zone is still in effect in the Dryden, Fort Frances, and Kenora Districts, along with southern parts of the Red Lake, Thunder Bay, and Sioux Lookout Districts.

The City of Thunder Bay isn’t included in the ban, nor are the areas of Neebing, Gillies, O’Connor, Oliver Paipoonge, Shuniah, and Dorion.

There are 60 active fires in the Northwest.

56 of those are either being observed, held, or are under control. (File Photo)
