Canada wins women’s world curling gold in Sydney

Rachel Homan and Team Canada are world champions.

They defeated Switzerland 7-5 in the final of the Women’s World Curling Championship at Centre 200 in Sydney on Sunday.

Trailing 5-4 in the 9th end, Homan’s team scored three to go ahead for good.

It’s the second world crown for Homan, and the first for Canada since Jennifer Jones in 2018.

A capacity Cape Breton crowd roared with each big Canadian throw.

It’s the second world championship for Homan and her Ottawa team, who only lost once during the tournament.

The win ended Switzerland’s reign of four-straight world titles.
