KDSB Reviewing Onigaming Fatality

A fatality on the Onigaming First Nation on Highway 71 is being reviewed by the Ministry of Health and the Kenora District Services Board.

A 911 call was made last Thursday morning around 10:00.

An Northwest EMS ambulance was dispatched and waited on the edge of the community waiting for the police to arrive.

In the meantime, a person died on Onigaming.

Chief Administrative officer Henry Wall visited the community on Monday.

He says the conversation was difficult, honest and respectful.

In a release, Wall goes on to say, “Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with family members and the community of Onigaming. The death of this young man is a tragic and a devastating loss. We want to be respectful to those grieving and affected by this situation and will be providing no further comment on the event’s details.”

He adds is may take several weeks for the review and investigation to complete.

The District Services Board says it provide the finding to the Onigaming First Nation and act on any findings and recommendations that are identified.
