NDP leader says no decision yet on budget

There’s no confirmation yet from the NDP on support for the federal budget.

Leader Jagmeet Singh says they haven’t decided yet on whether or not they’ll support it, because they have some concerns.

“One of the concerns is the fact that the disability benefit is only $200 a month, far too low. So we’ve got to hear from the Prime Minister and the Liberals on what their responses were concerns before we make a decision,” Singh says.

He adds the budget included a national school food program, a protection fund plan for renters and pharmacare, which the NDP has fought for.

“We said very clearly that, unlike the Conservatives who just decided the way they’re voting before looking at it, that we would look very clearly at the budget, and we would reflect on it with our team, but we have not heard yet a response to our concerns,” Singh added.

He says they plan to wait for a response before making a decision.

The federal budget was handed down on April 16th.
