Highway 17 east of Dryden open again

Highway 17 between Dryden and Ignace has reopened.

It was closed just before 8:00 Monday morning.

The Ministry of Transportation says a collision closed the Trans-Canada east of Dinorwic for about 6 hours.

Yesterday, the area between Shabaqua Corners and Ignace was closed due to Dryden fire #5.

It was located near the Raleigh Falls rest stop, which is about 20 kilometers west of Ignace.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says high winds increased the fire to 10 hectares in size.

Waterbombers were used to try to contain the blaze.

As a result, the OPP temporarily closed both lanes of Highway 17 while the aircraft were actively fighting the forest fire.

The highway was closed for about 4 hours.

The MNRF says the forest fire is still not considered under control.
