Forest fire hazard eases

The forest fire hazard has eased.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services says it is now listed as low for much of the region after reaching high levels for most of the weekend.

There were just two new fires reported over the weekend.

A fire near Gull Bay First Nation has since been declared out but required a helicopter dropping water from getting too large.

Another fire at Calvert Lake, 56 kilometres northwest of Geraldton, is still listed as active as of Monday afternoon, having scorched about 2 hectares.
