Fairly quiet weekend on the forest fire front

Despite heavy rain in some areas overnight, the forest fire hazard is listed as moderate to high across much of northwestern Ontario.

Over the weekend, there were just three new forest fires reported.

One was located near Woodland Caribou Park, about 26 kilometers east of the Manitoba Border at 04 hectares.

The other two are in the Deer Lake area.

One is 5 hectares in size, the other 1 hectare.

All three fires are now listed as under control.

Environment Canada says we can also expect smoke from western forest fires later Monday afternoon.

Most of the fires are burning in northern Alberta, though there are also some in Saskatchewan and northern British Columbia.
