More than half of Canadians say they’ll watch Olympics

More than half of people in this country say they will be watching the Olympic Games happening July 26th to August 11th in Paris.

Team Canada will compete in 34 events.

According to a Narrative Research online survey, 60% of Canadians plan to watch, either live or by following along with recaps.

About 21% do not plan on watching at all, while the rest are undecided.

While many events are expected to stir up excitement, 31% of Canadians say they are most excited to see the gymnastics competitions.

Among other events creating a buzz are swimming, athletics/track-and-field, soccer, then basketball.

Two more competitions have been introduced to the Olympic program for 2024: breaking (break-dancing) and sport climbing, which returns after undergoing changes.

The market researcher says although both of these events are expected to capture viewers’ attention, 38% of Canadians plan to watch sport climbing , compared to 33% who will check out breaking. However, 24% are uninterested in seeing either.
