Four new forest fires in the northwest region

There are now 39 wildfires burning across northwestern Ontario.

That includes four new blazes reported yesterday.

The largest is a 50 hectare forest fire burning in the Nipigon District north east of Winisk River Provincial Park.

It’s currently being observed.

Two others are in the Kenora District and are listed at 0.5 hectares in size near Minaki and are not under control.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says neither of those fires are posing concerns for the community or property.

The other is in the Red Lake District southwest of Sandy Lake on an island on Sandborn Bay.

One FireRanger crew is committed to this fire, and a helicopter was used to provide assistance.
