A Dream Comes True in Sioux Lookout

It’s a banner day in Sioux Lookout as that community celebrates the grand opening of the new Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre.

After nine years of planning and four years of construction, the new state-of-the-art facility was shown to area media outlets yesterday.

Today, dignitaries from virtually all levels of government are joining community leaders as the building is unveiled.

The Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre will provide service to four “Southern Communities;” Sioux Lookout, Hudson, Pickle Lake and Savant Lake, as well as twenty-eight First Nations Communities stretching across the Northwest as far as Fort Severn. The area includes over 30 thousand people.

The new Hospital is 140 thousand square feet, with 60 ‘in patient’ beds. Among unique features are a ‘one of a kind’ separate kitchen for preparation of ‘non government inspected’ meats that will include wildlife.

Patients and staff will begin moving from the two older hospitals in Sioux Lookout into the new hospital in November.
