A few more forest fires to start summer

Ministry of Natural Resouces and Forestry fire fighters have been a little busier during the first week of summer.

There are currently four active fires burning and one has been extiguished.

Nipigon Fire #7, which was reported on Monday, has grown to 211 hectares in size, and is located 28 kilometers northwest of the Fort Hope (Eabametoong) First Nation.

Eight fire crews and two helicopters have been assigned to the blaze.

The only new fire is Nipigon #8, which is located near Highway 11 at Klotz Lake.

The 0.1-hectare blaze is listed as not under control.

The fire hazard varies across the region from low to moderate in the Red Lake and Sioux Lookout Districts, and high to extreme in the Nipigon district.
