An official with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine calls it a time for self-reflection.
Darrel Matawaby says they have asked a panel of four university teachers to examine the way the school relates with Indigenous people, the same individuals the school was set-up to help.
Matawaby says the panel will provide them with the opportunity to get a sense on what needs to occur, what gaps may exist and how they should move forward.
He notes it’s an opportunity to pause and see where they stand in the grand scheme of things.
Matawaby is hoping to gain the perspective of Indigenous staff, faculty, learners, students and community members.
The panel is being asked to finish its work by September.
