Abitibi draws ire of Greenpeace

The environmental group Greenpeace is joining a growing list of groups opposed to Abitibi-Consolidated’s logging practices.

Earlier this week, Greenpeace staged a demonstration at Abitibi’s corporate headquarters in Montreal.

Greenpeace spokesperson, Kristy Ferguson says they support
the efforts the Grassy Narrows First Nation, which has blockaded a forest access road north of Kenora.

Abitibi Consolidated has the cutting rights to the Whiskey
Jack forest north of Kenora, but the provincial government is looking to re-assign the Sustainable Forest Licence to another company later this year.
