Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt is promoting the new Aboriginal Education Act.,
Valcourt was in Thunder Bay Tuesday to meet with area leaders.
He says the proposed education system has worked well in Nova Scotia and stresses it will have major benefits for all area first nations.
Valcourt says he’s heard the concerns of local leaders and feels the plan will allow adequate funding and allow for First Nations say in the education system.
Meanwhile, Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Grand Chief Harvey Yesno says he still has his concerns over the proposed system but notes he will continue to talk with the Federal Government.
