Conservative Senator Lynn Beyak is refusing to bow to pressure to step down after defending certain aspects of the residential school system.
The Nishnawbe Aski Nation and Grand Council Treaty 3 are both turning up the heat, calling her comments a national insult and unacceptable.
Treaty 3 Chief Francis Kavanaugh adds they show a lack of sensitivity to those who went through the system.
Beyak met with the Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples Tuesday for the first time since making the comments.
#lynnbeyak Through your ignorance you are adding to the pain & suffering of the IRS survivors. Resign now.#Senate https://t.co/8mILNvORBs
